It’s seasonal
It has to be. It can’t be any other way. Mainly because it’s not.
Stay with me. You need this. We both do. It’s not always easy to stay in the moment but when we do things can happen, normally good things.
Around 30% of our interactions with other humans involve the weather in some shape or form. That weather is ever evolving, it is never the same in two moments. Welcome to the concept of seasons. They define. They help us digest these changes in weather. They create a framework. As humans we love frameworks. Often so we can contravene them. That’s a topic for another time.
Weather seasons are for the most part predictable. Whilst the micro details of how much rain will fall on a single day are harder to predict, the loose start and end of a season is something well known. This itself gives us comfort. Another ingredient we enjoy having in human existence.
Life outside of weather is also seasonal but the rules of the game differ. We have very little if any control over the start and end of the season, the same applies to the weather during it.
Think about it. We achieve something special, we are elated. That elation lasts a short time or a long time often without explanation. We lose something or someone and we mourn until suddenly our mourning dissipates and we feel we have processed it until suddenly we are back in the eye of the storm again.
All predictability and all control is taken from us when it comes to the seasons of humanity.
It’s hard, we fight, we get frustrated, we want to regain control, we feel helpless. Nothing changes. The season remains.
A few months back someone asked me if I miss running. (Based on the fact that I used to run five times or more than the amount per week that I am currently running) I knew the answer but I still paused to make sure. “Not at all, it’s not the season.”
We sit on rainy autumn days wishing for summer to arrive, when it does and the sun beats down our natural reaction is to want the cool of winter back. We are odd, but we know this.
The season you are in right now is the season you are supposed to be in. You are doing the things you are supposed to be doing in the way you are supposed to be doing them. Don’t waste time and energy wishing for it to be different or “missing” something that belonged to another season. Doing so will only distract you from the beautiful season you are sat in but just may not be able to see.
You could even say (and you would be right) that it’s not been the season for a weekly blog post from me here. Maybe you are right. Maybe the seasons are changing on that front too.
Stay seasonal, stay present, stay beautiful.
Marcus
