Reborn in the mountains
800m down, an unknown distance to safety.
Steep mountain face.
Cloud coming in.
Temperatures dropping.
Snow and ice underfoot.
Dressed in running shoes, shorts and a tank.
What a beautiful set of circumstances to face one or all of our biggest fears: heights, inability to move, being alone, not being good enough, being last, being cold.
Trapped is the most prevalent feeling. The 800m already covered can not be retraced, the gradient is too much and the underfoot makes it impossible. The sweeping cloud makes seeing what’s left or a chance of safety all but disappear.
In your mind everyone is waiting, watching, laughing, in reality many of them are in the same boat as you, they are consumed by their own fears, yearning for safety, wishing for it to be all over. The ones that are not are there to help you.
The reality is it’s all you, it’s a golden moment that although you are hating it brings new life in so many areas of your life.
You made it. You are down. Now the gifts of your hard work on the mountain start to be delivered but only if you are willing to unpack what really happened up there.
Be willing and you will literately be reborn.
